Yes. PMI accepts an active CAPM certification in place of the 35 hours of project management education required for a PMP application. You must still meet the PMP's education and project-experience requirements.
What CAPM replaces
For an eligible applicant with an active CAPM, PMI does not require a separate 35-hour course to satisfy that part of the application. Check the status of your certification and the current PMP eligibility requirements before applying.
This is an application rule. It does not mean CAPM holders receive the PMP automatically or can skip its exam.
What CAPM does not replace
You still need qualifying project leadership experience under your education route. You must submit the required application information and pass the PMP exam.
If your experience is not yet sufficient, taking another preparation course will not substitute for the missing months. Review our PMP eligibility guide before deciding what to purchase.
Do you still need a PMP course?
That depends on your preparation needs. CAPM holders may choose a PMP course for guided study, instruction, practice, or a regular learning schedule even when they do not need it to satisfy the training requirement.
Start by comparing your knowledge with the current PMP exam outline. Try a representative set of practice questions and review how confidently you can explain your choices. Consider whether you can address the gaps independently or would benefit from a structured class.

Should you take CAPM just to avoid the 35 hours?
Consider the entire path: CAPM preparation, its exam, its cost, and your career goals. If you already qualify for PMP, an additional certification may not be the most direct route. If you are earlier in your career, CAPM may be useful for reasons beyond a future training exemption.
