Questions
The questions you have before you enrol.
If PMI or IIBA publish no figure, this page says so rather than repeating one you cannot check.
Eligibility
- Which certification is right for me?
- It depends on the work you do now and how much of it you have led. PMP is for people already running projects — PMI asks for 36 months of leading them if you hold a bachelor's degree — and CAPM is the same ladder one rung down, for building the foundation first. PMI-ACP is for agile delivery across Scrum, Kanban, Lean and XP, PMI-RMP for risk, PgMP for programs. On the business analysis side IIBA runs three levels: ECBA to start, CCBA once you have experience, CBAP for leading complex analysis work. If you are not sure, tell us what you do and we will go through it with you before you book anything.
- Am I eligible to sit the PMP exam?
- It depends on your education and how many months you have spent leading projects. With a bachelor's degree you need 36 months; with an associate degree or diploma, 48 months; with secondary school only, 60 months. A bachelor's or postgraduate degree from a PMI GAC-accredited programme brings it down to 24. Every route also asks for 35 hours of project management training, which is what this course provides.
- Does PMI count projects or months?
- Months, and they must not overlap. Two projects running at the same time count once. PMI counts experience earned in the last ten years, and the work has to be professional — paid or unpaid both count, and so does an apprenticeship, but coursework, academic research and personal projects do not.
- Do I need to be eligible before I join the course?
- No. You need to be eligible to sit the exam, not to take the training. Plenty of people study while they are still accruing months. We go through your dates with you before you submit anything to PMI.
- Does holding a CAPM change the requirement?
- Yes. An active CAPM waives the 35 training hours outright — PMI credits them against the requirement.
The exam
- What changed in the PMP exam?
- PMI reweighted the three domains and lengthened the paper. People moved from 42% to 33%, Process from 50% to 41%, and Business Environment from 8% to 26% — more than tripling. The exam now runs 240 minutes rather than 230, opens with a case-study section, and adds AI, sustainability and stakeholder engagement to the scenarios. If you are studying from material written before July 2026, it under-prepares you on Business Environment by a factor of three.
- How long is the PMP exam and how many questions?
- 180 questions in 240 minutes. Ten of the 180 are unscored pretest questions placed at random, so 170 decide your result. There are two ten-minute breaks: one after the case-study section, one roughly halfway through the independent questions.
- What is the PMP pass rate?
- PMI does not publish one, and it does not publish a passing score either. Any industry-wide percentage you find quoted is an estimate being repeated from one website to another. Results come back as performance ratings against each domain — Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement — not as a mark. Our own students are a different question: Education Edge has maintained a 100% pass rate, and every course carries a 100% pass guarantee — or your money back.
- What happens if I fail?
- Your eligibility runs for one year from approval and you get three attempts inside it. Fail all three and you wait a year before reapplying. Our courses carry a 100% pass guarantee — or your money back.
The course
- Is the training live or recorded?
- Live and instructor-led, taught over video. Not self-paced. That distinction matters from 1 December 2026, because from that date PMI counts live training toward the 35-hour requirement only when it comes from an Authorized Training Partner, a China Registered Education Provider, or an eligible accredited academic programme.
- Why does being a PMI Authorized Training Partner matter?
- From 1 December 2026 it decides whether your training hours count at all. Education Edge is Authorized Training Partner #4456, so hours earned here qualify before that date and after it. If you are planning live training with a provider who is not an ATP, finish it before 1 December.
- When do the courses run?
- Over consecutive weekends. PMP and CAPM run across seven Saturdays; PMI-ACP, CBAP, PMI-RMP and PgMP run Saturday and Sunday. Every published cohort date is on the course start dates page, day by day.
- Who teaches the courses?
- Hemant Dhariyal and Dave Odigie. Hemant holds 21 designations across nine issuing bodies, including every PMI credential, and teaches the courses himself rather than subcontracting them.
- How do I enrol?
- Tell us which certification and which start date you want, and we will call you back. Use the enquiry form on this site or phone us — that call covers which credential fits you, when the next class starts and what it costs. We go through your PMI dates with you before you submit anything, so you are not filing the application on your own.
- What support do I get after the course?
- Instructor guidance and a structured post-course study plan, until you are certified. The teaching stops at the last weekend and the support does not — you can keep asking your instructor questions while you finish your application and prepare for the exam.
Cost and renewal
- How much does the PMP course cost?
- $1,450 plus HST. That is the regular fee, and it covers the live instruction and the 35 contact hours PMI requires. There is an early-bird discount — ask us about it when you call. PMI's own exam fee is separate and is set by PMI, not by us.
- What does PMI charge for the exam?
- PMI sets that fee and changes it without much notice, and it is not published in the current Certification Handbook or the 2026 Examination Content Outline. Rather than quote a figure we cannot source, ask us and we will confirm the current amount before you budget.
- How do I keep the credential once I have it?
- 60 professional development units every three years, with the cycle starting the day you pass. At least 35 must come from education, with a minimum of eight in each side of PMI's Talent Triangle, and no more than 25 from giving back. Renew within 90 days of the cycle ending or the credential suspends.
