How to apply for CCBA?
1. Create an IIBA profile and open a CCBA application. 2. Pay the application fee. It is non-refundable, non-transferable, and it expires 12 months after purchase. 3. Log your development hours and your work history in IIBA’s BA Development Log. 4. Name your references and give work email addresses. Personal ones are refused.
The CCBA exam
Questions – 130, multiple choice and scenario based Time – 180 minutes Basis – the BABOK Guide, across six knowledge areas Sitting – online with a proctor, or at a PSI test center
What the questions ask of you
The questions are competency based. You are given a situation and asked what a skilled analyst does next, not what a term means. IIBA places CCBA at level two: you have practiced the work on smaller or guided pieces, and the paper is pitched there.
On exam day
At a PSI test center you get one 15-minute break, including any time spent fetching a drink. The clock keeps running through it, and you are rescreened before you go back in. You are given two sheets of paper or a whiteboard, collected at the end. IIBA lists the on-screen PSI calculator for CBAP only.
How it is scored, and what IIBA does not publish
IIBA does not publish a passing score, a pass mark or a pass rate for any of its exams. Any figure quoted for one is an estimate being repeated. You get pass or fail on screen and performance indicators by area, so you know where you were weak. The pass rate on this page is ours, not IIBA’s.
How to stay certified?
The cycle is three years and it starts the day you pass, not the day you enroll. You need 60 CDUs inside that window, recorded in your BA Development Log. One hour of planned, structured activity is one CDU, counted in quarter-hour steps. They have to come from more than one category, and every category has a ceiling.
Why get CCBA certified?
CCBA is the credential for analysts in the middle of a career: past entry level, short of the history CBAP asks for. It is assessed against the BABOK Guide, so what it certifies is method rather than the tooling of one employer.
