A PMI chapter can help you connect with project professionals through local or virtual activities. Start with PMI's chapter directory, then review the chapter's own event calendar and participation rules.
Choose a chapter based on the community and activities you want to join. A nearby chapter is a useful starting point, but location alone does not tell you whether its schedule or events fit your interests.
What to look for
Review upcoming events, subjects covered, speaker backgrounds, meeting formats, and participation fees. Check whether an event is open to nonmembers and whether registration is required.
If you are maintaining a certification, confirm whether a particular activity qualifies for professional development credit and how to report it. Attendance at a professional event does not automatically satisfy every renewal requirement.
Make your first event useful
Before attending, prepare a short introduction: the work you do, the industries you know, and what you want to learn. Ask people about their responsibilities and the challenges they encounter.
If you are exploring a new industry, listen for the knowledge and experience employers value. These conversations can improve your research without requiring you to turn every introduction into a job request.

Consider volunteering
Review the role description, responsibilities, and time commitment before applying for a volunteer opportunity. Choose work you can contribute to consistently and describe accurately afterward.
Do not assume a volunteer role automatically counts toward PMP eligibility. The nature of the work and PMI's experience requirements determine whether it is relevant to an application.
Find a chapter and plan your learning
Use PMI's chapter directory to find official chapter websites and current information. Chapter participation, certification applications, and Education Edge courses are separate arrangements.
If certification is part of your development plan, compare your PMI options. For live training availability, view Education Edge's course dates.
Education Edge is a PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP #4456). Every course is live and instructor-led, and selected courses carry a 100% pass guarantee or your money back.
