The updated PMP exam launched on 9 July 2026. If you are preparing now, use materials aligned with the current exam content outline. A course or question bank built for an earlier version may leave gaps in your preparation.
PMI's update brings more attention to business outcomes, with topics such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, and stakeholder engagement appearing in project scenarios. The practical question for a candidate is how those ideas affect project decisions.
Start with the current exam outline
The exam content outline describes the areas PMI assesses. Use it to check the coverage of your course, study plan, and practice questions. A publication date alone does not tell you whether a resource addresses the current exam.
When comparing training, ask how the syllabus maps to the outline and whether the practice material reflects the current format. If you began studying before July, ask which topics you should revisit.

Study the reasoning behind a decision
A useful study routine goes beyond remembering terms. For each practice scenario, identify the problem, the people affected, and the information the project manager needs before taking action.
For example, a team proposing an AI tool raises questions about data quality, confidentiality, oversight, and whether the tool supports the project's purpose. Use scenarios to practise evaluating those questions in context.
When reviewing an incorrect answer, write down why your choice was weaker and what detail should have changed your decision. This gives your next study session a clear purpose.
Check the format before booking
The current PMP exam has 180 questions and a 240-minute examination period. Build timed practice into your preparation and check PMI's current guidance on appointments and breaks. Plan your full appointment around the testing provider's instructions, rather than treating the exam duration as your total time commitment.
Your next step
Review PMI's official exam update and the current PMP certification requirements. Then compare your resources with the current outline.
