PMI exam eligibility, retakes, and refunds: plan before booking

An approved application does not give you unlimited time to take a PMI exam. For the certifications covered by PMI's general handbook, candidates normally have a one-year eligibility period and up to three attempts within that period. Check your certification's rules and the dates in your PMI account.

Put the important dates in one place

Record your eligibility end date, intended exam date, and any appointment-change deadlines. Leave enough time for preparation and possible changes to your plans.

An application audit can affect when you are ready to proceed. Respond to the audit instructions with the required evidence, rather than booking around an assumed approval date.

If you need another attempt

Use the result to identify what needs more work before selecting another appointment. Check your remaining eligibility time and attempts, then allow a realistic study interval.

Retake fees are separate from your training tuition unless a written course offer explicitly includes them. Confirm the amount through PMI for your certification, membership status, and location. If you have exhausted your attempts or eligibility period, review PMI's reapplication rules before making another payment.

Course refunds and exam refunds are different

Education Edge's course cancellation terms govern your training purchase. PMI and its testing provider govern the exam purchase and appointment. A refund from one organization does not automatically cancel or refund a purchase from another.

Before buying, save the applicable terms. Before changing an appointment, check the deadline, fee, and effect on your eligibility period. For illness or another exceptional situation, follow the official process and keep the requested documentation.
